Poker Bot Challenges

We wanted to take time to update you on the two ongoing “Rags to Riches” challenges that are happening in our support forum. Things are getting kind of exciting with them, and I think there are some important lessons we could all learn from these case studies. Especially regarding proper bankroll management and what is possible to achieve when you follow a disciplined set of rules.

In case you are not familiar with this, a Rags to Riches challenge is where an online poker player starts with zero bankroll and plays freeroll tournaments until they win a prize, then follows very strict bankroll management rules with that money attempting to increase it over time. Professional poker player Chris Ferguson is credited for originating this concept, with his famous personal challenge where he turned $1 into more than $20,000 in a matter of months. A poker-bot Rags to Riches challenge does it all by using the bot of course.

We have two such poker bot challenges taking place in our forum at the moment, each of which have gathered quite a following. Both were started purely from the inspiration of the person pursuing the challenge. Member cosmo27 is using the Holdem Bot, and member Royal is using both of our Omaha Bots. Both started with zero funds. We thought you might like to know how they are doing.

Member cosmo27 began his challenge on Dec. 30th, less than two months ago. Even though he won money the very first day, he still had a bit of a sputtering start. Getting past the first few dollars won from the freerolls playing NL Holdem MTT’s was indeed a challenge for him. He finally got over the $1 mark on January 14, when he went straight to $20 and hasn’t looked back since. Cosmo is now sitting on about a $250 bankroll. You can see a chart of his progress so far here:

Now maybe you think that is no big deal (almost two months later only having $250). But remember, he started with nothing. Zero out of pocket expense for poker chips, and the bot does all the work. Keep in mind that this challenge is still in the beginning stages as well. Perhaps, however, you will be a bit more impressed with the progress of the other challenge.

Royal started his Omaha Rags to Riches challenge on September 20, exactly 5 months ago. He had the same mis-starts and stutters that cosmo27 experienced getting passed the free-rolls in the beginning. But like cosmo, he persevered until he got past them and kept working the system. Right now, at last count, he was sitting on a bankroll just shy of $5,000 and is playing in the major FTOPS events. Starting from nothing, and using the bot to play all the events.

What’s even more ironic is that his bot actually sat next to Chris Ferguson in one of the FTOPs events he just played! You can read the entire saga of both these challenges at our support forum on these two threads:

That’s it for now. Have fun reading those threads, and possibly starting your very own Rags to Riches challenge. Who knows, by the end of the year you might be sitting on a $10,000 poker bankroll starting with nothing. Playing MTT’s and staying within your bankroll is certainly a proven way to get there – with or without a bot. It’s just that with a good bot (like ours), it’s a heck of a lot easier.
